When we left Canberra for Wollombi (near Kurri Kurri where Alcan had a smelter) it was raining, but that’s a bonus. We were soon driving through the eucalypt forest and the rain brings out the fragrance of the trees, making the air minty fresh. And in the distance, the mist in the air together with the haze from the gum trees bathed everything in a soft blue glow. Beautiful.
